HECK YES TO ALL OF THIS.

“I won't be apologising for book promotion like it's another bit of advertising ("sorry for the book spam!").

It's not spam, or a random sales pitch, or a sale item being flogged: it is something that has been worked on alone, in private, for a long time. Many male authors I know and admire will talk about their work often and with pride, they will say "I made this, and it is good." The self promotion bit is needed, and most writers write because they also want people to read it. Promoting work is not always synonymous with "selling" either. The truth is, many authors don't make that much money from writing books alone. Most authors are simply trying to connect their words to people, because they feel the book might help in some way and they feel they are offering something of value.

I acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi, Wakka Wakka and Butchulla peoples, the First Nation Traditional Owners of Country, and custodians of the land and waters on which I live and work, and all the peoples who have welcomed me on Country. I pay respects to all Elders past and present and acknowledge the young leaders who are working beside Elders in our cultural industries in the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices. I recognise all First Nation peoples as the original storytellers of these lands and acknowledge the important role they continue to play in our community.
